Glow From Within: The Skin Diet Nobody Told You About

"Your skincare routine called. It wants a word."

Let's start with a confession. Somewhere in your bathroom there is a serum that cost more than your weekly shop. You apply it with the reverence of a priest. Then you wash down lunch with a fizzy drink, skip water until 4pm and wonder why your skin looks like it pulled an all-nighter.

We've all been there. But here is the slightly inconvenient truth: your skin is an organ, not an accessory. It is fed by your blood, built from what you eat and watered by what you drink. Creams work on the outside. The real glow, the one that makes people ask if you've just come back from holiday, is made on the inside.

So this month at The Edit, we are going in. Literally.

First things first: drink the water

Yes, we know. You've heard it before. Your therapist said it, your trainer said it, and that sticker on your water bottle with the motivational times says it every hour. But they're all right, and it is annoying.

When you are even slightly dehydrated, your body sends water to the VIP organs first: brain, heart, kidneys. Your skin is at the back of the queue. The result? Fine lines look deeper, dark circles look darker and that lit-from-within look gets replaced by something closer to "lit by a fridge light".

Aim for around 1.5 to 2 litres a day, more if you exercise or spend your days in central heating (which, from now until April, is all of us). Not a fan of plain water? Add cucumber, mint, a slice of lemon or a few frozen berries. Your skin doesn't care if it's fancy. It just wants the water.

What's in your cup?

Cut back on sugary drinks (sugar stiffens collagen, basically caramelising your face from the inside), alcohol (dehydrating, redness-inducing and a sleep thief) and coffee number five. Match every coffee with a glass of water.

Hello, warm drinks season. The kettle is our best friend again, but choose your teabag wisely.

Skip on an empty stomach: green tea, matcha and strong black tea. Their tannins can leave you queasy first thing, so enjoy them after breakfast. And "detox" teas? Skip them any time. They're usually laxatives in a pretty box.

Favour these instead:

  • Hibiscus. Our star of the season. Ruby red, tart and packed with antioxidants that help protect skin from the damage that ages it. A longevity drink for your face. (Pregnant or on blood pressure medication? Check with your GP first.)

  • Rooibos. Caffeine-free, gentle and the perfect first cup of the day.

  • Ginger. A warming wake-up call without the jitters.

  • Chamomile. Better sleep, better skin. Simple.

  • Spearmint. A friend to anyone prone to hormonal breakouts.

Eat the rainbow (no, not the sweets)

UV, pollution and that 11pm doom-scroll all create free radicals that chip away at collagen. Antioxidants are the bouncers that throw them out. Load up on berries, pomegranate, kiwi (more vitamin C than an orange), red peppers, leafy greens and cooked tomatoes, whose lycopene boosts your skin's defences. Pasta sauce counts. Two squares of 70% dark chocolate also count. We're not monsters.

Protein: the scaffolding of your face

From our mid-twenties we make about 1% less collagen every year. Rude. Your body builds it from protein, so give it eggs, oily fish, chicken, Greek yoghurt, lentils or tofu at every meal. Pair them with your vitamin C foods and your collagen has the full toolkit.

Going nuts for an even skin tone

Sun, hormones and inflammation can push melanin into overdrive. No snack erases dark spots, but some help keep things balanced. A daily handful of almonds was linked to less pigment intensity in one small study. Walnuts calm inflammation with omega-3s, pumpkin seeds bring healing zinc and one or two Brazil nuts add antioxidant selenium.

And yes, we have to say it: food is the back-up dancer. SPF is the lead singer.

When your skin needs more than a smoothie

Here's the thing. You can eat all the berries in Borough Market and drink hibiscus by the bucket, and your skin will thank you. But food has a long journey. It goes through your gut, into your bloodstream and gets shared out among every organ in your body. Your skin gets whatever is left over.

So what if you could skip the queue and deliver the nutrients straight to where they're needed?

That's exactly why this month we are obsessed with NCTF, a cocktail of more than 50 skin-loving ingredients: vitamins, amino acids, minerals, antioxidants and coenzymes, all wrapped in hyaluronic acid. It's essentially a five-star meal served directly to your skin cells.

Mesotherapy Skin Booster

Tiny micro-injections deliver NCTF exactly where your skin needs it. Think of it as a vitamin drip for your face. It hydrates deeply, revives dull and tired skin and supports your skin's own collagen production. Perfect if your complexion has been looking a little "Monday morning" lately.

The Gold Standard Glow

Our signature treatment for anyone who wants it all. The Gold Standard Glow pairs NCTF with real 24Kt gold leaf, applied and massaged into the skin. Yes, actual gold. On your face. The gold helps remineralise the skin and lift away the heavy metal residue that city pollution leaves behind (Chelsea air, we're looking at you). The result is skin that looks rested, plump and luminous, the kind of glow no filter can fake. If you have an event coming up, a wedding, or simply want to walk into the party season looking like the best version of yourself, this is the one.

Why now?

Party season is weeks away, the central heating is on and your skin is about to face cold winds, late nights and more mulled wine than it signed up for. Treatments like these work best as a course, so starting now means you'll be glowing just in time for December.

Our November diary is filling up fast, and appointments are limited. When they're gone, they're gone, and we'd hate for you to spend the festive season wishing you'd booked.

Psst: newsletter subscribers have something special waiting for them this month. Not on the list yet? Sign up and thank us later.

Your skin has been working hard for you all year. It's time to return the favour.
